Colchester Chinese New Year Gala 2023

To celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Rabbit, the Colchester Chinese Culture Society will be hosting a Chinese New Year Gala on the Saturday 21st January 2023. This event is supported by Essex County Council’s Arts Fund, Essex Culture Diversity Project.

The gala will be held in the St. Botolph’s Church in Colchester from 3:00pm – 4:30pm and will include Lion Dances as well as music, dance, and song performances by professional troupes and community members.

The Chinese New Year Gala is a prestigious annual event which has been running through the years in various venues such as Mercury Theatre Colchester, Civic Theatre Chelmsford. Due to COVID-19 lockdowns, this year’s gala will be the first since 2020. So, we are excited to be joined by the people of Colchester’s community in celebrating Chinese culture and welcoming the Year of the Rabbit.

Above all, we hope the gala will be a fun way for residents to learn about Chinese traditions and that they will have fun doing so!
